Clay Week is a chance for Aotearoa's amazing clay community to come together to learn, connect and celebrate clay with the Nelson community!
Between September 28th and October 4th this year (2024) with events and workshops being held across the Nelson Tasman region with most of our events walking distance from the Nelson CBD.
For the most part, the festival is designed for practitioners, but children are most welcome to check out Potters Square at the top of Trafalgar Street where we'll have clay tables and activities there for them. Plus our mate Jennie Bate is running two special kids workshops.
There will be heaps of free to attend demonstrations on-stage at Potters Square and tickets to over 25 workshops are available on our Workshops page.
Check out our Workshops page to see what's available and then book through our ticketing agent EventFinda.
On Saturday the 28th The Potters Market will feature ceramic artists from around the country and while we don't have supplies available we highly recommend you pop in to see our good mate and sponsor Steve Robertson at Nelson Pottery Supplies while you're in town!
For the most part there is no parking available for our venues. We have however strived to make our festival walkable from the Nelson CBD.
Not through the festival but there are a number of fantastic cafes and restaurants around Nelson.
While we strive to make Clay Week as inclusive as possible, unfortunately a few of our venues are not accessible. Nelson Community Potters, Kiln Studio & Frost and Fire Studio are not what we consider accessible. The Suter Art Gallery, NMIT and Potters Square will be accessible. Events held at Kiln Studio downstairs will also be accessible.
Yes! We warmly welcome volunteers - please go to our 'Get Involved' page.
There are exhibition and street frontage showcase opportunities available, however these need to be organised well in advance. Contact us to check availability.
There is an opportunity to display and sell your clay creations at the Potter's Market. Please reach out if you'd like to be involved.
Plenty! But remember it's the first week of the school holidays, so don't leave it too late!
The best way will be to follow us on Instagram or signing up to our email list.
Sorry you missed out! Please send an email to hi@clayweek.nz and let us know which workshops you missed out on. If it's possible and we can add another session you'll be the first to know.
